The Senate has approved the sum of N74,773,601,916 billion, as the 2021 budget for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund.
The Senate’s action followed the consideration of a report by the Joint Committee of Senate and House of Representatives on Police Affairs.
The 2021 NPTF budget is the second since the NPTF Establishment Act came into force in 2019.
In his presentation, Chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Dauda Halliru Jika said that the sum of N988,279,006.05 contained in the budget is for Personnel Cost, while N10,027,610,310.25 is reserved for the Overheads Expenditure. N11,015,889,316.30 is Earmarked for Recurrent, and N63,757,712,600.00 for Capital Expenditure.

Jika further gave the breakdown as 0.5 percent of the Total Revenue Accrued to the Federation Accounts at N41,867,680,099.00; with 0.05 percent of Total Value Added Tax (VAT) standing at N8,824,064,676.00.
Another 0.05 per cent of the Net Profit of Companies in Nigeria, is pecked at N 300,000,000; with Aids, Grants, and Donations taking N150,000,000.
He explained that the total revenue roll-over from 2020 was N23,632,857,141.30.
Earlier in May 2021, the National Assembly Joint Committee on Police Affairs approved a 2021 budget of N74 billion for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF).
The N74 billion budget reportedly captured all the demands of the fund which include training and retraining of personnel of the Nigeria Personnel Force (NPF).
The Appropriation was to ensure the procurement of the state of the art equipment for the police.
However, efforts by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, to clarify the procurement process and other expenditures by the Police Force proved abortive
As Chairman Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Matthew Urhoghide, had accused the force and six other agencies of not honouring the invitation to furnish the committee with details of financial dealings.
