The Senate Committee on Finance has rescinded its earlier resolution seeking the removal of the Registrar-General , Corporate Affairs Commission, Hussaini Magaji by President Bola Tinubu
This follows an apology and renewed commitment from the CAC boss to improve communication with the National Assembly.
The committee had last week called on President Tinubu to remove Magaji from office over his repeated failure to appear before it during sessions with the federal government’s economic team.
The chairman senate committee on finance, Sani Musa had expressed displeasure at what he described as persistent evasion of appearances, stating that members were unhappy with the Registrar’s conduct.
However, at Monday’s session, Magaji appeared before the committee and tendered an unreserved apology, expressing remorse for his past absences and assuring lawmakers that such incidents would not recur.

Satisfied with his explanation and remorse, several senators spoke in his defense and appealed for forgiveness.
Among them are senators Diket Plang, Ned Nwoko, Jibrin Isa and Orji Uzor Kalu, with Kalu who had moved the initial motion last week for Magaji’s removal also supporting its withdrawal.
The chairman subsequently put the motion for withdrawal to a voice vote, and members of the committee voted unanimously in favour of rescinding the earlier resolution.
Despite the reprieve granted to the CAC Registrar, the committee stood down consideration of the Commission’s 2024 and 2025 budget presentations, describing them as scanty and directing Magaji to return later in the week with a more detailed submission.
