The Nigerian Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of Shaakaa Chira for appointment as Auditor-General for the Federation.
This follows a motion by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele.
Chira in his remark decried the underfunding of the office of Auditor-General for the Federation With allocation of N62 million in the past budget.
He added that the office requires proper funding to discharge its audit responsibility to the nation.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio says the National Assembly has responsibility to keep the office of Auditor-General for the Federation alive for the purpose of transparency and accountability on the utilization of public funds.
Former President of Senate Ahmed Lawan emphasized the need for the 10th Senate to ensure the passage of the Federal Audit Bill, adding that its passage will empower the office of Auditor-General to function optimally in the fight against corruption.
