The Nigerian Senate is currently in a closed-door session to deliberate on the proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
This follows the presentation of the official gazette from President Bola Tinubu, which was read on the Senate floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The gazette details the suspension of the Rivers State Governor, Deputy Governor, and elected members of the State House of Assembly.

It also announces the appointment of a sole administrator to oversee the state.
President Tinubu told lawmakers on the nomination of Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, as the administrator.
The Senate’s closed session is in accordance with Order 135 of its standing rules.
