The senate on Wednesday passed for second reading a bill seeking to rename National Centre for Women Development after Maryam Babangida
According to the Sponsor of the bill Senator Betty Apiafi (Rivers West), the proposed legislation is in appreciation for her Contributions to National Development.
She added that the amendment of the National women center act will help bring the functions of the Governing Council in conformity with other existing legislations, as well as
meet the sustainable development goal of ensuring women effective participation in governance
The lawmaker stated that the National Centre for Women Development charged with the responsibility of helping women attain higher levels in the social and economic space in the country would be given special attention to ensure more mobilization of women in both urban and rural areas.
