State creation, constitutional recognition for traditional rulers and special reserve seats for women are the key submissions of states from the North West region at the zonal public hearing for the amendment of the Nigerian constitution organized by the Senate in Kano State.
The host governor, Abba Yusuf who came represented, advocates for a constitution that reflects the federal nature of Nigeria and guarantees national unity.
The venue of the public hearing is decorated with banners from movements and interest groups seeking the creation of additional states out of the existing ones.

The hall was filled to capacity with political gladiators across all levels, interest groups, civil society organizations, including women associations as the message of the Kano state governor Abba Yusuf was delivered by his chief of staff.
Deputy senate president and chairman of the zonal public hearing, Barau Jibrin while declaring the session open, called for open mindedness, noting that no legitimate view will be ignored.
With the hope that state police will not be abused, there were calls for its establishment, recognition for traditional rulers, reserved seats for women and allowing labor related issues to remain on the exclusive legislative list.
