Two weeks after completing his three-month suspension, Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, has been recalled and pardoned by his colleagues.
So far, Senator Ningi has served seventy-six days in suspension.
The decision of the senate follows a motion titled, “Unconditional Recall of Senator Abdul Ningi,” sponsored by Minority Leader Abba Moro, and co-sponsored by Deputy Minority Leader, Olalere Oyewumi and Whip, Osita Ngwu.
Abba Moro apologised on behalf of Senator Ningi, taking full responsibility for his actions.
He noted that Ningi has spent over two months outside the National Assembly Complex, and should be allowed to return to his legislative duties.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, seconded the motion, asking lawmakers to forgive Ningi unconditionally, and accept his recall.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, described Ningi as a resourceful lawmaker, who should resume his legislative activities, and assume his seat.
The lawmakers unanimously adopted the motion, pardoning Ningi and recalling his participation in Senate activities.
Senator Abdul Ningi was suspended on March 12, 2024, after alleging that the 2024 budget was padded by N3 trillion.
Ningi resigned as Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, and was stripped of his Chairmanship position on National identity.
