The Nigerian Senate has announced a minor reshuffle of its standing committees, with Senator Simon Lalong named as the new Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC and Electoral Matters.
Lalong, who represents Plateau South (APC), replaces Senator Sharafadeen Ali (APC, Oyo South), who has held the position since the inauguration of the 10th Senate.
Senator Ali has now been reassigned to chair the Committee on Agricultural Institutions and Research, a position previously held by Lalong.
As part of the shake-up, Senator Anthony Ani (APC, Ebonyi South) will relinquish his role as Chairman of the Committee on Tourism, with Senator Pam Nwadkon (PDP, Plateau North) taking over the post.
Senator Eze Kenneth (APC, Ebonyi Central) will step down as Vice Chairman of the Committee on the South East Development Commission.
That role will now be filled by Senator Anthony Ani.
Senator Emeka Eze (APC Ebonyi central ) retains his position as Chairman of the Committee on Information and remains Vice Chairman of the Committee on Water Resources.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio said such adjustments will occur periodically to enhance legislative efficiency.
He also directed the Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele to ensure that all standing committees present reports of their activities for deliberation on the Senate floor.
