Senate

The Senate on Tuesday resumed plenary, after two months of annual recess and immediately went behind closed doors; worried about a number of issues pending before it while it was away.

Top on the list is the 2021 budget and how to ensure speedy passage of the document, expected to be forwarded anytime soon by President Muhammadu Buhari to both chambers of the National Assembly.

The Senate is also concerned about the new draft of the Petroleum Industry Bill.

On Monday, the leadership met with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, promising to break the age-long jinx, that made it extremely difficult for Nigeria, to pass the legal framework for the regulation of its oil and gas industry.

This follows the Minister’s request asking the Federal lawmakers to expedite action on the PIB before oil becomes worthless in the global energy mix.
