Muktar Maiha, President Bola Tinubu’s nominee for Minister of Livestock Development says he will leverage on technology to address the farmers-herders crisis.
During his screening by the Nigerian Senate race on Wednesday, Maiha outlined plans for the new ministry to create a comprehensive database of grazing reserves infrastructure, cattle routes, and viable dams. He says the data will be analyzed to ensure that these areas have adequate water, grass and veterinary clinics.
Maiha emphasized the importance of raising awareness that cattle rearing is a business. He said the livestock ministry, of under his watch, will encourage individuals to ensure that grazing areas are suitable for livestock, thereby reducing the desire for herders to migrate. He called for support from the National Assembly, state and local governments to fulfill the president’s vision in establishing a Presidential Committee on Livestock.

Senators from Adamawa State praised his credibility, noting his experience in running one of the largest ranches in the North.
They commended his involvement in President Bola Tinubu’s livestock development initiative. After responding to questions, Maiha was asked to ‘take a bow’, an indication of satisfaction with his answers.
