Senate summons Wike, Commissioner Of Police Over spate of kidnappings in FCT

The Nigerian senate has summoned the Minister of Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike and the FCT commissioner of police over rising kidnapping in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and tragic abduction of 19 individuals, including Senator Ned Nwoko’s Senior Legislative Aide, Chris Agidy, in Galadimawa, Abuja,

The resolution of the upper chamber follows a motion titled “Galadimawa kidnap incident, response and need to urgently enhance security measures in FCT” sponsored by Nwoko, Ned (Delta North).

Senator Ned in his motion drew the attention of his colleagues to the tragic loss of his aide to kidnappers.

The lawmaker stated that upon receiving the distress news, he promptly contacted the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, who swiftly activated the OC Anti-Kidnapping team to secure the release of those abducted.

After debate on the motion senate accordingly urged the IGP to urgently increase security patrols and surveillance within Abuja and across the Nation for proactive measures against kidnappings.

The senate also urged the IGP to see to ensure installation of CCTV Cameras in strategic locations within and around Abuja Highways.

They urged the Police to dedicate a three digit emergency number for effective emergency response.

That the Nigerian Communications Commission ( NCC) , should urgently ensure the functionality of dedicated emergency numbers for Police , Ambulance and Fire Service emergencies to enhance switft response to security and public safety incidents.

The FCT Minister and Police Commissioner , according to the President of the Senate , Godswill Akpabio , are to meet the Senate in a closed session.
