Senator representing Edo South Senatorial District, Neda Imasuen, has officially defected from the Labour Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing unresolved internal party crises and leadership challenges.
His defection was communicated in a letter addressed to the Senate and read during Wednesday‘s plenary by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio
In the letter, Senator Imasuen said his decision followed wide consultations with his constituents, political allies, and supporters across the Edo South senatorial district
He explained that the move is aimed at aligning with the development-focused policies of the Federal Government and the Renewed Hope agenda championed by President Bola Tinubu.
Senator Imasuen added that the internal crisis and leadership struggles within the Labour Party have hampered his ability to effectively represent and deliver the dividends of democracy to the good people of Edo South

He added that the APC provides the national prominence necessary to fulfill the mandate given to him by his constituents, an advantage he said the Labour Party currently lacks.
The Senate formally welcomed Senator Imasuen into the APC caucus during the session.
With his defection, the APC further strengthens its dominance in the 10th Senate, bringing its total number of seats to 69, just four seats away from the two-thirds majority required to pass critical legislation without opposition.
The current composition of the 10th Senate is as follows:
• APC – 69 seats
• PDP – 30 seats
• Labour Party – 4 seats
• SDP – 2 seats
• NNPP – 1 seat
• APGA – 1 seatThis brings the total number of occupied seats to 107, with two seats currently vacant
