Senate President Godswill Akpabio has raised concerns that the most vocal critics of the tax reform bills are often those who have not taken the time to fully understand their content.

Speaking during the budget presentation by President Bola Tinubu in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Akpabio emphasized that these reforms mark Nigeria’s first comprehensive tax overhaul since Independence.

He highlighted that the bills present a unique opportunity to revitalise small and medium enterprises and improve the livelihoods of ordinary Nigerians.

Akpabio noted that the reforms would not only enhance Nigeria’s revenue but also create a more business-friendly and internationally competitive environment.

He further stated that these reforms will help transform the tax system to support sustainable development.

The Senate President commended President Bola Tinubu for introducing this groundbreaking tax reform initiative.

Akpabio urged all Nigerians, particularly those in public office, to engage with these important reforms in a thoughtful and informed manner.

The tax bills include the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Bill, 2024; Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, 2024; Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, 2024; and Nigeria Tax Bill, 2024
