Seven members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives from Akwa Ibom State formally announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at Thursday’s plenary.
House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who confirmed this through letters of all seven members at the commencement of plenary proceedings, welcomed them to the All Progressives Congress
The members include: Unyime Idem, representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency, Martin Esin, representing Mbo/Okobo/Oron/Udung Uko/Urue federal constituency, Paul Ekpo, representing Etinan/Nsit Ibom/Nsit Ubium federal constituency, Uduak Odudoh, representing Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo federal constituency, Eteh Ikpong, representing the Eket/Onna/Esit Eket/Ibeno federal constituency, Emmanuel Udo, representing Ikono/ Ini federal constituency, and Okon Bassey, representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency
The development follows the defection of the Akwa Ibom State governor, Umo Eno from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress in June 2025.
