The Taraba State Aids Control Agency (TACA) says at least 45,000 persons are currently on treatment for the disease in the State, and sixty-eight percent (68%) of them are women.

The Director General of TACA in the State made known this after an enlightenment campaign aimed to eradicate AIDs in the State, as part of activities to mark the World Aids Day.

Wife of Taraba State Governor Agyin Kefas was among dignitaries who joined the campaign, and assured of her support for the cause.

The prevalence of the Human Immuno Virus, and Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome HIV/AIDS has dropped from 10.5 to 2.9 in Taraba State, this data is based on the 2018 prevalence survey by the Federal Government.

The Taraba State Aids Control Agency (TACA), says it hopes the prevalence will be lower when another survey will be taken, as the weekly yield report submitted to the office has dropped.

The Director General of the Committee, Dr Garba Danjuma says the State now has 45,000 patients on treatment for HIV, and 68% of the figure are women.

He says it is a call to action as the State gears towards eradicating AIDs related deaths in the State by 2030, hence the need for intensified sensitization to the public.

Wife of Taraba State Governor Agyin Kefas is advocating for increased screening for the disease especially among the vulnerable population of women and children.

She also calls on community and religious leaders to always engage in the sensitization against the disease.
