Senator Shehu Buba Umar has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary in Bauchi State, citing alleged irregularities in the conduct of the exercise.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Comrade Sabo Muhammad, the senator said the decision was taken in protest against what he described as violations of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act, APC Constitution as amended, and the party’s electoral guidelines.
Senator Shehu Buba alleged that the primary process was characterised by irregularities, including the absence of electoral officials at designated venues and the declaration of what he described as predetermined outcomes.
He also claimed that critical details relating to the primary, including the identities of electoral officials, voting centres, collation points and distribution of election materials, were not disclosed to aspirants.
The senator further alleged that despite his financial and political contributions to the APC in Bauchi State over the past three years, he had been sidelined within the party.
According to the statement, the withdrawal followed consultations with supporters, political associates, stakeholders, family members and friends.
Senator Shehu Buba, however, urged his supporters to remain calm and law-abiding, while reaffirming his commitment to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
