Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, says the Federal Government is taking urgent steps to restore calm in Woro and Nuku communities of Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, after a bandit attack that left more than 100 people dead.
The Vice President gave the assurance during a condolence visit to the Kwara State Government in Ilorin at the weekend.
He announced that the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency has been instructed to immediately deploy relief materials and coordinate with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency to provide humanitarian support for victims and displaced residents.
Shettima described communities in Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas, including neighbouring settlements across the Benin Republic border, as historically peaceful, noting their record of tolerance and inter-religious harmony.

He condemned the attack as the work of violent elements promoting an ideology alien to the customs, values, and traditions of the people, stressing that such extremism does not reflect the identity of the affected communities.
He added that security agencies have been placed on heightened alert, with operations intensified to prevent further violence and stabilise the area.
Preliminary findings indicate that the attack followed the resistance of local residents to attempts by bandits to impose a foreign doctrine and undermine lawful authority, resulting in widespread killings and the destruction of homes and other property.
