The Civil Society Situation Room says it lacks confidence in the National Assembly conference committee to produce a final electoral amendment bill that will reflect the will of the people.
The situation room which consists of over 70 civil society organisations, CSOs told the media in Abuja that the mistrust on the federal lawmakers compelled them to continually occupy the NASS complex from Monday until the outcome of the draft protects the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system.
Equally, The group also finds it disturbing that the Senate reduced the timeline for the issuance of the Notice of Elections from 360 days to 180 days before polling day.

Members of the The situation room had staged a protest last week to the National Assembly over the delay of the bill.
The National Assembly conference committee set up from both the House of Representatives and the senate resume legislative work next week but is yet to announce a specific date for the submission of the final conference committee report on the electoral act (amendment) bill 2026.
