Cross River state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade has announced the release of the N400 million take-off grant for the new West African Construction and Fabrication Academy, Calabar, aimed at addressing the dearth of middle-level skilled manpower in the state.
Ayade spoke in Calabar while commissioning the Academy built by his administration.
According to the Governor, his government has brought in seasoned experts from across the world to mould the trainees and prepare them for the future.
He charged Cross River youths to utilise the opportunity offered by the Academy to earn a living and be productive to the society.
Earlier in his address, the state Commissioner for Youth Development and Skill Acquisition, Signor Omang-Idiege expressed optimism that with the youths well engaged now, youth restiveness will be reduced to the barest minimum in Cross River State.

The academy is taking off with an initial 500 trainees. It offers training in welding and fabrication technology, masonry works, carpentry, modern roofing, upholstery, and furniture works among others.
