Social Rights Activists Shehu Sani, Omoloye Sowore, and Owei Lakemfa have challenged organized labour in Nigeria to immediately launch a campaign for a new minimum wage, describing the current N30,000 as ‘slave wage’.
The social activists who spoke at a symposium on Minimum wage and National Security organized by the Socialist Movement of Nigeria (SMN) also blamed the ruling class for the worsening security situation in the country.
Each year, the month of May is globally set aside as workers’ month with the celebrations flagged off on Workers’ Day, 1st of May.

In Nigeria, Social Rights Activists have pushed strongly for better welfare; insisting the New Minimum Wage of N30,000 cannot sustain workers in the face of harsh economic realities.
Apart from the issue of wages, the Social Activists also expressed concern about the spate of insecurity in the country.
