The former Military Administrator of Sokoto State, Navy Captain Abdulrasheed Adisa Raji (rtd), has commissioned the N4.1 billion, 14-kilometre Buzulega–Lukuyawa–Yar Gada–Tabanni–Malikawa–Shalla–Kware road.

The project is jointly funded by the Sokoto State Government, the World Bank, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Captain Raji described rural roads as the cornerstone of socio-economic development in every society.

“Rural roads play a significant role in enhancing effective healthcare service delivery and improving the quality of life of people at the grassroots,” he said.

He noted that the completion of the 14-kilometre road was a significant step by the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration towards improving the living conditions of rural dwellers.

“The completion of this road clearly demonstrates how Governor Aliyu is matching words with action,” Raji stated.

He commended Governor Aliyu for his foresight and commitment to executing laudable projects for rural communities and urged the benefiting residents to reciprocate the gesture by supporting government policies and programmes.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu said the N4,164,165,948.20 road project was designed not only to reduce transportation costs for farm produce but also to minimize post-harvest losses by improving market access and supporting storage infrastructure.

“This road traverses communities in Kware, Gwadabawa, and Wurno Local Government Areas, directly benefiting thousands of residents and farmers who rely on this corridor for daily transport, trade, and access to essential services,” the Governor said.

Governor Aliyu urged farmers, transporters, and small business owners to take ownership of the project and protect it against vandalism.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rural development, agricultural modernization, and infrastructural renewal, assuring that government would continue to invest in projects that have a direct bearing on the lives of the people.

He also commended the World Bank and CBN for their partnership and urged communities along the road to intensify agricultural production to complement government efforts towards achieving food security for the state and the nation.

The Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, commended the Governor for the numerous developmental projects being executed across the state.

“The Governor is doing well. I call on other politicians to use their time in office to execute meaningful projects for their people,” the Sultan said.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Roads, Malami Muhammad Galadanci, revealed that the 14-kilometre road was initially designed as a feeder road, but Governor Aliyu upgraded it to a fully tarred road.

He said residents whose farmlands were affected by the project have been duly compensated, and the project was completed on schedule and in line with the contractual agreement.

The National Coordinator of the Rural Agricultural and Marketing Project (RAMM), represented by Abubakar Yahaya, said the road is one of several rural road projects being implemented in partnership with the Sokoto State Government to improve the transportation of farm produce to markets.
