Sokoto Govt Commits To Reviving Abandoned Historical Sites

Gov. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has expressed his administration’s determination to revive all the abandoned historical sites in the State.

The Governor gave the assurance at a cultural event in Sokoto.

Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Dadi Adare, Gov. Aliyu said he would revive all the major historical monuments abandoned in the State.

According to him, Sokoto as the home of culture and tradition, has a large number of historical sites that need to be preserved for the benefit of upcoming generations.

“We have important historical sites such as Tabkin Kwato in Gudu LGA, Surame in Silame LGA, Alkalawa in Sabon Birni LGA, and Hubbaren Shehu in Sokoto North LGA, among others, that, if revived, could improve the revenue generation of Sokoto State and further expose our rich cultural heritage to the outside world”, he added.

The Governor appealed for Media support in the revival of the abandoned historical sites in the State, particularly in the documentation of the historical sites.

Also speaking, Sen Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko commended the organizers of the cultural event which is to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Sokoto people to the outside world.

According to him, the annual event would educate and also remind the upcoming generations about the culture, tradition, norms, and values, which researchers and tourists would be interested in.
