The Sokoto State government has boosted its state-wide digital skills training program with the formal inauguration by the Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, Bashar Umar Kwabo on Thursday.
This is as the Ministry graduated 50 youths from its extensive digital training program for 1,000 youths in the State.
The digital training program was designed to transition participants from digital illiteracy to digital literacy. It provides trainings in computer literacy, graphic design, video editing, social media marketing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), for productivity.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Nasir Daniya, who led the session with a comprehensive lecture on basic computer skills, emphasised internet and social media safety, and relevant ICT laws, ensuring that participants are well-informed about the digital ecosystem.
During interactive sessions with participants, Mr Kwabo applauded the efforts of staff of both the MIDE and ICT Directorates and the partners. He announced the State government’s plan to train a further 10,000 persons across the State, aimed at enhancing digital skills and promoting self-sustainability.

Participants, who are drawn from all 23 Local Government Areas of Sokoto State, have reported significant improvements in their digital skills since the program’s inception. The initiative is a key component of Sokoto State’s strategy under the Ahmad Aliyu-led administration to prepare its citizens for digital transformation.
The second batch, selected from various local governments across the state, highlights the government’s commitment to promoting innovation and digital skills.
Participants from remote rural areas were engaged in online sessions, while others attended in-person classes.
