The Sokoto State government has assured that it will not abandon any property or properties belonging to the State which have been taken over by any financial institution.

The Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey and Town Planning, Nasiru Aliyu Dan Tsoho, gave the assurance in an interview with Journalists in Sokoto.

Dan Tsoho, while commenting on the State’s indebtedness to financial institutions to the tune of N1.8 billion, said no record was handed over to the current administration until financial institutions started coming up with claims.

According to him, the State government is daily being ambushed by Financial institutions and it has no option than to dialogue with them to find a solution.

The Commissioner however assured that the government would not allow any property or properties belonging to the people of Sokoto State to be taken over by any Financial institution.

Tsoho told Journalists that presently, the State government pays about N300 million to a Bank every month for the Sokoto Central Market transaction.

Despite this financial burden, the Lands Commissioner said the Ahmad Aliyu administration has not borrowed any money, adding that every project is being funded from the Federal Allocation and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
