The Sokoto state government has approved a monthly imprest of N200,000 for principals of secondary schools across the state.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu made the announcement during a Town Hall engagement on the 2025 budget.
The decision followed a passionate appeal by the former deputy governor, Chiso Abdullahi, who pleaded for financial support to enable school principals to address immediate maintenance needs.
The disbursement of the imprest, which will commence in January 2025, is aimed at improving the overall maintenance and functionality of secondary schools across the state.
Governor Aliyu also directed the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Dadi Adare, to urgently review the allowances of traditional rulers in the state to align with current economic realities.
The directive followed an appeal by the District Head of Kilgori, Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori, who represented the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, during the budget town hall engagement.
Kilgori appealed for an increase in the traditional rulers’ allowances to reflect prevailing economic conditions.
The budget town hall organized by the Sokoto State Government was to give citizens an opportunity to make inputs into the 2025 budget proposals.
