Soldiers, suspected sea pirate killed in Delta gun battle

The Delta state police command has confirmed that a serving soldier attached to Operation Delta safe, OPDS, and a suspected sea pirate have died during a clash with suspected sea pirates in Tuomo, Burutu local government area of Delta state.

Although the military authorities could not be reached for immediate reaction, the police command spokesperson, Edafe Bright, told air.live that suspected sea pirates in a speed boat drew first blood by launching an attack on soldiers manning a checkpoint arm but were fiercely repelled by the soldiers.

He said in addition to the soldier and the suspected pirate that was killed, one other suspected pirate was disarmed and arrested.

Monday night’s incident caused panic among residents of the community and its environs
