Strike

As the strike embarked upon by the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD continues, relatives of patients at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, in North-East Nigeria have called on the Federal Government and the striking workers to resolve their differences, for the benefit of the Nigerian masses.

At the hospital, everywhere seems to be deserted, the only patients who have remained here are the ones who are without options.

Ward 4 and 5, which are 30-bed capacity each, have only a few patients, seen with nurses and students of the School of Nursing taking care of them.

Medical Director of the hospital said, so far, the management has engaged few consultant doctors who have to take care of the patients.

NARD President in the hospital, Dr. Mohamed Algazali confirmed that, following the emergency Executive Council Meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, it was agreed that the strike be sustained.

Part of the demands of the Resident Doctors is payment of salary arrears, migration from GIFMIS to IPPIS, and withdrawal of the circular removing house officers from the scheme of service.
