Chief of the South African Army, Lieutenant-General Lawrence Mbatha, has paid a working visit to key Nigerian military institutions in Kaduna to enhance defence cooperation between both countries.
The visit included the Nigerian Defence Academy NDA, the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, DICON.
The visit by the South African Chief of the Army is part of ongoing efforts between Nigeria and South Africa to strengthen military cooperation and compare training systems of their armed forces.
During his stop at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Lieutenant-General Mbatha praised the institution’s integrated academic and military training curriculum, calling it a model worth emulating.
He said such engagements provide valuable opportunities for both countries to exchange ideas and improve professional military education.
At the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, the South African Army Chief also recognised existing exchange programmes involving directing staff and students from both countries, describing the collaboration as mutually beneficial.
The delegation later visited DICON, where discussions focused on expanding cooperation in defense production and strengthening partnerships between the defense industries of both countries.
Military officials say that the visit will further reinforce bilateral military relations and enhance professional collaboration between Nigeria and South Africa’s armed forces.
