The South-East Council of Traditional Rulers has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to release detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kalu in the interest of peace and security of the region.
The royal fathers who are meeting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, said that criminals are capitalising on the detention of Nnamdi Kalu to destabilise the eastern region.
The South-East region of Nigeria has witnessed unprecedented security challenges over the years arising from the activities of gun men and other criminal elements who have been taking advantage of the continued detention of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kalu.

The Abia State chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Linus Nto Mbah, says the release of Nnamdi Kalu will create an enabling environment for the security agencies to trace those criminals hiding under the agitation for the release of Kanu to destabilise the region.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti who addressed the royal fathers urged citizens to hold their leaders accountable for their actions and inability to bring stability to the region.
The royal fathers who came out in their numbers were unanimous in their appeal for the creation of additional states in the South-East region of Nigeria.
