The Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, wants young Nigerians to emulate Professor Wole Soyinka’s values of selfless service and social justice to enable them become future transformers in society.
Oba Gbadebo gave the advise at the occasion of the 90th birthday celebration of Prof Wole Soyinka on Saturday in Abeokuta where he also advised the federal government to grant 13th of July as WOLE SOYINKA DAY.
The two day event at the instance of Oba Gbadebo to celebrate the Nobel Laureate’s 90th birthday started on Friday with rich cultural displays dominating the second day on Saturday.
In attendance to celebrate the professor at 90 were students of his Alma Mata, st.Peters Anglican Primary School, Ake and Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi ABA, Abeokuta amongst others.
It was an atmosphere of colourful display of different cultures and exhibitions.
Many guests including the Alake of Egbaland speak on the person of Professor Wole Soyinka.
His son Olaokun Soyinka expressed appreciation to Nigerians for the love shown to his father.
The theme for the birthday celebration tagged KONGI @ 90 is: “DEFIANCE AND CREATIVITY -A CELEBRATION OF SOYINKA’S ARTISTIC INGENUITY AND IMPACT ON NIGERIA, AFRICA AND ENTIRE WORLD”
