The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has cautioned lawmakers to speak less to the press to avoid misleading the public on sensitive issues.
Lawan gave the advice while reacting to a complain by the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, who faulted the interview the Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, granted to Channels Television on Tuesday night.

Omo-Agege claimed that Abaribe alleged in the interview that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senators conspired to shortchange the host communities in the proposed five percent to three percent in the Petroleum Industry Bill that was passed on July 1 2021 and signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Omo-Agege denied there was no time the APC Senators conspired to reduce the five per cent equity share approved for the host communities in the joint committee’s report to three per cent, affirming it was a collective decision of the Senate.
Reacting on the issue in the absence of Minority Leader Eyinnaya Abaribe, President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan who said members of the 9th Senate do not vote along party lines, called on Senators to talk less to the press.
According to Lawan, once an issue has been decided, any lawmaker who is dissatisfied should approach his colleagues and convinced them.
