Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as chairman of the reconciliation committee for the All Progressives Congress, APC in Benue State
The reconciliation committee is tasked with addressing and resolving the internal crisis rocking the party in the state, identifying root causes of factionalisation and disunity within the party, engaging critical stakeholders and party organs to foster unity.
The committee’s mandate also includes proposing structural, procedural and strategic reforms aimed at achieving lasting peace and political cohesion with a comprehensive report containing recommendations for consideration by the President.
Other members of the committee are the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni; former Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari; former House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara; and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari.
The Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Professor Jake Dan-Azumi, will serve as secretary of the committee, while the Chief of Staff to the Yobe State Governor, Abdullahi Gashua, will be part of the secretariat.
This marks the second time President Tinubu is entrusting Abbas with such an assignment as the Speaker had earlier chaired the All Progressives Congress reconciliation committee for Bauchi State four months ago; an assignment that has since been completed.
The committee is expected to commence work immediately by consulting widely with relevant stakeholders.
