There appears to be a major disagreement among five PDP governors at the ongoing convention to elect new members of the National Working Committee NWC
The issue seems to be between Adamawa state governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who is the chairman of the convention planning committee and other governors and leaders of the party
AIT News had reported how the Adamawa state governor had, midway into the commencement of the convention, put the issue of whether the party should proceed with the election of new national officers. According to him, it was not a decision he could take on his own.
Fintiri had said, “With the absence of INEC, it is not within my prerogative to continue with this exercise. I leave the convention delegates to decide”
After presenting the issue, Fintiri walked away from the stage with an expression of resignation, suggesting that he accepted the inevitability of what was about to happen next even though he did not agree with it.
Shortly after he left the stage, the secretary of the convention committee, Senator Ben Obi was invited to present the matter as a motion before the delegates, asking if the convention should involve election of new national officers. The response was a resounding “aye”, followed by a dissolution of the current NWC whose 4-year tenure has statutorily lapsed; and clearing the way for the election of new members.
Sources also told AIT News that Fintiri, who is a close associate of the FCT minister Nyesom Wike was not in full agreement with the decision to expel the former Rivers governor. A total of 11 members, including national officers, were expelled after a motion presented by a founding member Chief Bode George and seconded by senior advocate of Nigeria Emmanuel Enoidem was adopted by delegates
Governor Fintiri was not seen at the venue of the convention after the resolutions, leaving the convention secretary Senator Ben Obi to oversee the remaining part of the programme and the voting
