Sports betting company, SportyBet says it has reported 42 accounts of its users to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and industry regulator, the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, NLRC.

A statement by the Company says “This specific claim relates to 42 accounts which were restricted from further activity after having been identified and verified as being simultaneously abusively operated using bot technology by an international cybercrime syndicate”.

“It is important to note that all 42 accounts are associated with the exact same foreign IP addresses and that the accounts repeatedly attempted to submit similar or identical illegal automated bets with fake odds that were not published by SportyBet”.

According to SportyBet, there is an ongoing investigation into these accounts and the associated individuals as it “strengthens its collaboration with regulatory authorities and law enforcement agencies to combat cybercrime after a recent failed attack”.

It will be recalled that some users of the sporting bet platform recently claimed that they made some winnings but the Company has not paid them and instead their accounts have been blocked cutting them off from access same.

SportyBet in its response says the 42 accounts reported to EFCC and NLRC are those of the affected users. It says with the recent experience, its “resolve was only strengthened after having become aware of a false and defamatory claim of “unpaid winnings” published by certain media publications without the opportunity for SportyBet to comment and refute this claim”

In its words, “As the investigation takes place, it’s evident that the perpetrators are attempting to manipulate the media to orchestrate a smear campaign against SportyBet”. The Company says it is even “considering legal recourse against these malicious actors and any accomplices complicit in tarnishing SportyBet’s hard-earned reputation and goodwill”.

“SportyBet has already been investing and tirelessly working for many years to combat cybercrime and SportyBet has now announced that it will invest even further in artificial intelligence and other important technologies to identify and help bring cybercriminals to justice”.

In addition, “SportyBet intends to implement further measures to fortify its security protocols, deepen existing user verification processes, and deploy cutting-edge technologies to detect and continue to prevent any attempted exploitation of its platform. SportyBet’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its services and safeguarding the interests of its users remains unwavering”.

“SportyBet is a globally renowned sports betting brand that operates in multiple countries and continents, serves millions of users worldwide, and has been operating as a regulated and well-reputed online sports betting operator in Nigeria for more than 12 years”.

The sports betting company says it is confident in the continued trust of our loyal users and the public at large.
