Some education stakeholders in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital, have called on the federal government to stop paying lip service to educational development in the country.
They made the call at an event while reacting to the mass failure of candidates in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, Most of the stakeholders at the event said they are yet to come to terms with the mass failure recorded in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in the country, a scenario that has led to a blame game amongst Joint Admission Matriculation Board, Parents and Schools.

While various reasons have been adduced for the 86% failure rate, including malfunctioned computers and the Covid 19 pandemic restrictions, stakeholders agree there is an urgent need for concerted effort to be taken to address the downward slide in the performance of students during examinations.
Nigeria’s education system have in the last decade being challenged by increased insecurity, infrastructure deficit, and other factors that have kept the government at loss on what to do.
