The Plateau state police command says it had to seal the Plateau assembly to prevent a breakdown of law and order. The state police commissioner, Bartholomew Onyeka, made this known at the state headquarters in Jos while giving updates on the recent Plateau state House of Assembly crises.
Bartholomew Onyeka said that the Nigerian police, which is constitutionally saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property, had to seal the House of Assembly based on an intelligence report on a possible breakdown of peace in the assembly.

He called on the legislators to seek peaceful ways of resolving the recent crises, adding that the police as a co-defendant in the case has filed an appeal for a stay of action on the judgment reinstating Ayuba Abok as Speaker of the Plateau Assembly.
For now, the assembly remains sealed as parties involved in the matter continue to seek means to put an end to the face-off.
