The Rivers State Government has declared that Monday’s judgment of the Supreme Court was principally about the State’s Appropriation Bill of 2024 and not about the defection or status of Martin Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers of the State House of Assembly.

Addressing the Media on Monday night, the Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dagogo Iboroma said the Supreme Court made no order whatsoever reinstating Amaewhule and 26 other defecting lawmakers as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He added that, contrary to some Media reports, the Supreme Court also did not make any findings regarding their status as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The Supreme Court had on Monday delivered judgment in an appeal filed by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara against the Court of Appeal’s decision to declare the State’s 2024 budget illegal.

The Court’s decision followed the withdrawal of the suit by counsel to the Rivers State Governor.

But the Supreme Court’s judgment of Monday has been greeted with various interpretations.

In his bid to set the records straight, the Rivers Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Dagogo Iboroma said the defection of Martin Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly was not an issue for determination in the matter and was also not an issue for determination in the resultant appeals.

Therefore, he wants the general public to ignore the false narratives about what transpired at the Supreme Court on Monday.
