Despite earlier concerns about alleged discrepancies in the disbursement process of the National Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, students and management of the University of Cross River State, UNICROSS, have confirmed that the funds applied for have been received.
A total of 1,691 students benefited from the scheme across three tranches, with tuition fees paid directly to the university and monthly stipends of ₦20,000 disbursed to the students.
The confirmation was made during a sensitization and interactive session organized by NELFUND at the university’s campus.
At the one-day sensitization session held at UNICROSS, students who benefited from the loan said the application process was entirely online and free of physical bottlenecks.
They acknowledged that the loan has provided timely support, especially with the university’s strict “no fees, no examination” policy.
Managing Director of NELFUND, Akintunde Sawyerr, who addressed participants at the event, said the fully digital application system was designed to promote transparency and reduce fraud.
He maintained that the Fund will continue to work with institutions nationwide to ensure that students have uninterrupted access to education.
