The immediate implementation of the thirty thousand Naira minimum wage in the Taraba State civil service has been approved by the government, in a bid to ease the economic crunch on the citizens of the state.

Before the rollout of the palliative measures in Taraba State, the Governor, Agbu Kefas, had a meeting with stakeholders representing the various interests in the formal and non-formal sectors, to discuss the needs of the people and the possible ways of intervening.

A ten-point palliative plan has been unveiled by the Taraba State Government, to ease the economic crunch on the citizens, as a result of the removal of fuel Subsidy by Nigeria’s Federal Government.

They include the implementation of the thirty thousand Naira minimum wage for civil servants from October, subsidised transport fares for commuters and farm produce, empowerment programmes, temporarily engaging ten thousand women and youths to keep the streets of Jalingo clean, swapping fuel-powered vehicles for electrical ones, free education, and free agricultural inputs to farmers, among others.

Governor Kefas made these known in another meeting with stakeholders from different sectors in Jalingo.

The Governor also directed further needs assessment of communities in the state for effectiveness.

The Commissioner for Information, Zainab Usman, says the governor’s plan will be backed with immediate action.

The plan also captures the basic needs of thousands of Internally Displaced People in different parts of the state.

The government has also set up a 15-man committee on palliative care, to ensure efficient implementation.
