Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, says the 72-hour ceasefire window declared by the warring factions in Sudan will not in any way affect the safe and continuous evacuation of Nigerian Nationals in that country.

The Nigeria foreign affairs minister told state house correspondents that the initial delay in the evacuation process was due to the difficulty in securing authorization from the Sudanese government and some security support for the convoy of about forty buses earmarked for the travel through the Egyptian border.

He added that officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, are still on the ground in Egypt to oversee the safe return of Nigerians trapped in Sudan.

Also at the weekly meeting of the executive council of the federation, the Ministry of Aviation got approval for the award of the contract for the supply and installation of additional five units of liquid explosive detector machines for five airports in the country.

The attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, revealed that Council has given approval for the design and formulation of a National Action Plan for the Promotion and Protection of human rights in Nigeria from 2022 to 2026.

The Ministries of Education, Agriculture, Works, and Housing also presented memos that receive the council’s approval.
