The Supreme Court has dismissed an application filed by shell Development Company requesting the court to revisit a January 11, 2019 judgment ordering it to pay the sum of seventeen billion naira to some Ogoni communities in rivers state.
Justice Chukwudumebi Oseji gave this judgment on Friday after dismissing the company’s application for a review of the judgment after upholding the preliminary objection filed by the communities’ legal team
The case which has been going on for about thirty one years from when it started at the high court, issued the seventeen billion naira order in favor of Ejama- Ebubu in tai local government area of rivers state who was represented by Isaac Agbara and nine others.
The communities’ lead lawyer, Lucius Igwe, said that the judgment sum with the accrued interests for thirty two years period stood at about one hundred and eighty two billion naira.
