Justice Abdu Aboki has called on the judiciary to always maintain its credibility by ensuring that appointment of justices of the Supreme Court is based essentially on merit.

Justice Aboki said this during a valedictory court session held in his honour by the Supreme Court as he bowed out of the nation’s judiciary on Thursday, after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70 years.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, body of benchers and the Attorney General of the federation took turns to eulogize the performance of justice Aboki despite his brief stay at the supreme court.

The Nigerian Bar Association (,NBA) seized the opportunity to send a note of warning to lawyers ahead of 2023 election.

Justice Aboki was born on 5th August, 1952 in the commercial city of Kano. He had his primary and secondary education in Kano before proceeding to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he studied Law.

Upon his graduation in 1976, Justice Aboki proceeded to the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1977.

He started his judicial carrier as a High Court Judge in Kano and in 2006 he became a Justice of the Court of Appeal.

He rose to the Supreme Court in 2020 alongside seven other distinguished jurists.
