A lawyer, Benedit Azza has been reportedly shot dead by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, at the Gusau bypass on Thursday night.

Sources within the area say the gunmen wanted to kidnap the victim from his residence in the Saminaka Area, behind the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Bypass in the Gusau metropolis, but he was able to escape with his car.
The gunmen then pursued him to the Express Road, where they shot him dead.

The chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Zamfara State branch, Barrister Junaidu Abubakar, has confirmed the incident.

He narrates, “at about 10: 30 p.m while I was in my house, I received three different phone calls from our colleagues, informing me that Benedict. T. Azza Esq. had been shot dead by unknown gunmen, and his body was lying on the roadside, along the bypass, near the FRSC office, in Gusau. “I rushed to the scene where I met some of our colleagues with many security personnel.

Eyewitness accounts says Benedict Azza was shot three times by the gunmen who took to their heels when they noticed the residents coming to the scene of the incident.

The body of Azza has been deposited in the morgue by the police in Gusau.

The Police image maker, Superintendent Mohammed Shehu, says the police have commenced a discreet investigation, to unravel those behind the incident.
