Suspected Terrorists Block Gusau-Funtua Highway, kill Policeman, Abduct Expatriate, Travellers

Suspected terrorists have killed a police escort and abducted several travellers, including an expatriate and construction workers after blocking the ever busy Gusau-Funtua highway in Zamfara State Northwest Nigeria.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the heavily armed terrorists blocked the ever busy Gusau-Funtua highway at Kwanar Rogo for several hours, shooting at any moving vehicles.

The incident was said to have occurred when the terrorists came out in their usual manner to block the highway in the Tsafe- Local Government Area of the State.

One of the survivors said that the daredevil terrorists laid an ambush on motorists and travellers and were firing sporadic gunshots at any moving vehicle.

According to the eyewitness accounts, the terrorists attacked a Toyota RAV4 Jeep carrying an expatriate and his police escort was killed instantly while abducting the expatriate, with Unspecified numbers of other travellers to the bush.

The operation of the terrorists on the Gusau- Funtua Highway was almost two hours before a combined team of security agents could arrived the scene to restore normalcy and free the highway for travellers to proceed to their destinations.

The Gusau- Funtua Highway has been one of the hotbeds of terrorists’ attacks, hardly would a day pass without a report of incident of attack, despite efforts by the troops to eliminate the terrorists and bandits, and restore peace and order but the terrorists seem to be emboldened and poised to Carry out their evil act by the day.
