Suspected terrorists have reportedly killed four policemen in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.

The victims were said to have mounted a checkpoint along the Bungudu-Gusau-Sokoto highway to conduct routine stop-and-search, when the suspected terrorists, who were said to be on their way back from a certain community where they went to rustle cattle, launched the attack on the policemen.

A resident of Bungudu town, Kabiru Bungudu, told AIT reporter that the suspected terrorists killed four policemen who were carrying out their duties along the road.

He also disclosed that the terrorists rustled unspecified number of cattle from a nearby community.

Kabiru said the incident occurred at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday.

Efforts to get the police command to confirm the incident were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent, ASP Yazid Abubakar, did not respond to calls put across to him by our correspondent.

Bungudu Local Government Area is one of the local councils in Zamfara State that has come under relentless attacks by suspected terrorists.
