Suspected terrorists have attacked and killed the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation, and Development of the Usmanu Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, Professor Yusuf Saidu.
Yusuf Saidu, who is a professor of biochemistry, was said to have been on his way from Sokoto to Kaduna when he was attacked and killed along the Gusau-Funtua road on Monday.
The residents of the Kucheri community in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara, where the incident occurred, said the terrorists blocked the Gusau-Funtua Highway to abduct passengers and killed the professor at about 11:30 a.m.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Suleiman Bilbis, while reacting to the development, described the deceased as a man of integrity, religion, dedication, and courage.
He said, “This is a painful loss to all members of the university community.”
It may be recalled that 12 corps members, on their way from Akwa Ibom State to Sokoto, were kidnapped by terrorists along the Gusau-Funtua Road.
Up until now, one of them is still held captive by the terrorists.
The terrorists have been attacking, abducting, and killing innocent citizens along the Gusau-Funtua Highway, including a former member of the House of Representatives.
