The Suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu has arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Tuesday to answer questions on an alleged N585 million fraud in the Ministry.
The Spokesperson of the EFCC, Dele Oyewale who confirmed this to ait.live said Edu is being attended to by a team of the Commission’s Interrogators.
Betta Edu, who was suspended on Monday by President Bola Tinubu was accused of paying some funds meant for humanitarian activities into a private account.
The N585 million humanitarian fund was meant for payment of grants to vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Cross River and Ogun States.

Edu is the first Minister in the Tinubu administration to be suspended from office since members of the Federal Executive Council were inaugurated in August 2023.
The Spokesperson of the EFCC also confirmed that the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, Sadiya Umar-Farouk was released on bail late Monday night after been detained for several hours at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Umar-Farouk was directed to report everyday to the EFCC’s office for sessions with Interrogators on alleged financial misappropriations levelled against her, during her tenure as Minister.
