Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has formally written to the Nigerian Senate, demanding immediate compliance with a Federal High Court judgment that declared her six-month suspension unconstitutional , excessive and notified senate of her resumption on July 15th 2025

In a letter dated July 11 and sent through her legal team, M.J. Numa & Partners LLP, the Senator cited Section 63 of the 1999 Constitution and urged the Senate to act in accordance with the binding court order to restore her legislative rights.

Titled “RE: SUIT NO: FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025 Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan v. The Clerk of the National Assembly & Ors.: Forwarding of court order and demand for compliance,”

The letter emphasized that the court found her suspension not only unlawful but also inconsistent with her constitutional duty to represent her constituents.

Quoting Order 10 of the judgment, the letter noted that the court ruled the suspension to be excessive, overreaching, and incompatible with Section 63 of the Constitution.

Her lawyers further argued that the decision aligns with Order 66(4) of the Senate Standing Orders, 2023, which limits suspensions to a maximum of 14 days far less than the six months imposed on her.

Citing the legal principle that nature abhors a vacuum, the letter emphasized the need for immediate action

The letter concluded with a clear notice that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan intends to resume legislative duties on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

Her legal team urged the Senate to act without delay to avoid further breach of constitutional rights and defiance of a standing court order.
