A former Governor of Benue State and ex-Senator, Gabriel Suswam, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal crises and a lack of cohesion within the opposition party.
His resignation was contained in a letter dated Wednesday, February 4, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Mbagber Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The letter was shared on Facebook by his Chief of Staff, Moses Ukeyima.
In the letter, Suswam said his decision followed the party’s failure to resolve longstanding internal conflicts affecting its leadership, structure, discipline, and ideological direction.
He stated that while the PDP had provided him opportunities to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, Governor of Benue State, and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, roles for which he remains grateful, the party has drifted from its founding values.
According to him, repeated reconciliation efforts have failed to restore stability, leaving the party trapped in a cycle of crisis with no credible pathway forward.
Suswam said he could no longer align his continued membership with his personal convictions or his desire to contribute meaningfully to nation-building within a stable political platform.
