Taraba Bye-Election Peaceful, Witnesses Low Turnout Of Voters

The Bye-election for Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal constituency in Taraba State witnessed a low turn out of voters in most polling units in Jalingo the State capital.

Eleven candidates from 11 political parties are contesting in the election to replace the elected candidate Yushua Maihanco, who died before he was inaugurated.

The Jalingo Zing Yorro Federal constituency bye-election held in three Local Government Areas of Northern Taraba State.

ait.live crew monitored the election in Jalingo the State capital where most of the polling units began the accreditation of voters and casting of ballot simultaneously by 8 in the morning.

Most of the polling units visited had low turn-out of voters, but the exercise was orderly and hitch-free.

Three of the 11 candidates contesting in the election voted in Jalingo.

There was partial compliance with the restriction of movement in Jalingo, despite high security presence on the streets of Jalingo to enforce curtailment of violence.

The bye-election is scheduled to hold in 658 polling units across three Local Government Areas of Jalingo, Zing, and Yorro.
